Britain's financial sector after Brexit
Will the City of London lose its appeal?
We take a look at what's in store for Britain's financial services sector after Brexit. Niamh Moloney is a professor of financial markets law at the London School of Economics, and tells us about the trade-offs involved as the UK and European Union begin to negotiate how this crucial sector will operate at the end of Britain's transition out of the EU. Saker Nusseibeh is chief executive of Hermes Investment Management, and explains how the firm has set up an office in Ireland in preparation for Brexit. Rami Cassis of Parebellum Investments discusses EU rules he'd like to see the UK diverge from at the end of the process. And we hear from Barbara Casu, professor of banking at Cass Business School, whether there is another city that could supplant London as a global financial centre. Also in the programme, Ivan Menezes, chief executive of drinksmaker Diageo tells us about the challenges the firm faces as a result of 25% tariffs imposed by the United States on European spirits as part of a dispute over aircraft subsidies. Plus the 大象传媒's Adrienne Murray reports from southern Denmark on the prospects for a new electric ferry.
