Rhys fell in love with nursing through caring for her dad. Her dad suffered a back injury which ultimately led to heroin addiction in the pursuit of pain relief. Rhys was ten weeks into studying nursing when he took his own life. Despite the difficult path, she has achieved so much and even won a Young Scot award for excellence in education and she said: "I felt like my dad was there with me, cheering me on". Nursing, to her, is about being human and being there for someone in need.
