When Edward the Confessor dies in January 1066 there are three claimants to throne: Harold Godwinson, Earl of Wessex; Harald Hardrada, King of Norway and William Duke of Normandy. Harold Godwinson is chosen to succeed Edward by the witan...so the two other claimants prepare to invade England. First Harold must confront Harald Hardrada at Stamford Bridge; then his army must march south to face the Normans at The Battle of Hastings.
