How do placebo and nocebo effects differ in sport?
Prof Christopher Beedie works with elite endurance athletes to help them shave vital seconds off their personal bests. His research suggests that placebos can also work in sport. These marginal gains, though, can be so easily undone by the evil twin of placebo – the nocebo effect.
