Coronavirus economies: Could 'de-growth' make a better world?

In the Netherlands, 170 scientists have signed a manifesto for what's being billed as a post-covid-19 ‘de-growth’: a plan for an economy based on the redistribution of wealth. They also call for more debt cancellation.

There are also questions what about the health and ecological benefits of lockdown, especially cleaner air and less burning of fossil fuels. Is there any way to retain these benefits, in a way which improves people's lives, without the threats of economic instability and unemployment? Economic anthropologist Dr Jason Hickel explains the ideas.
