Making 'good time music' in hard times
Hailu Mergia started his career performing in Ethiopia with the Walias Band in the 1970s - before moving to the United States. There he worked as a taxi driver in Washington DC while he carried on writing his music.
He's just released his latest work - a stylistic mash up called Yene Mircha - or My Choice. But of course he can't tour with it, because of the Coronavirus lockdown.
He spoke to Newsday.
