Recording the silence of lockdown
Apart from being the title of a famous and much-played Simon and Garfunkel song from the 1960s, what does the sound of silence actually sound like? With lockdowns in effect across the world, many of us have been feeling a new sense of stillness unheard before, especially in big cities.
Well Hasheemah Afaneh is a Palestinian American writer in New Orleans who wanted to hear a whole range of silences from around the globe. That is how a volunteer project called 'Dispatches of Silence' was born. Along with Neveen Ayesh from Saint Louis who is also a collaborator, she explained what they have collected.
