Covid-19 employment crunch
The unemployment rate in the United States is at its highest level since the 1930s, as the coronavirus pandemic continues to wreak havoc on the economy. Employment has fallen sharply in all major industry sectors. But there have been particularly heavy job losses in leisure and hospitality, the first sector hit and the one bearing the brunt of the impact of lockdowns. Naomi Pomeroy is an award-winning chef and restaurateur. She owns a small restaurant in Portland Oregon called Beast, employing about 30 people.
