Jamming with Djibouti's 'national band'
Djibouti has long been known as a strategically-important location, both economically and militarily. But one of its better kept secrets is perhaps its music. This is partly because the country's recording industry is completely controlled by the government. The national radio archive holds over 5,000 reels of music - the entire catalogue of Djiboutian music on record. It took a lot of negotiation for producer Vik Sohonie to get access to the archive, where he was introduced to the 'national band' Groupe RTD.
