The 'heartbreak' of raising a black son in the United States
The death of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis has ignited days of protests in the US over law enforcement's repeated use of lethal force against African Americans. How does this affect parents raising their children in a society where they might have genuine cause to fear the police?
Ifrah Udgoon, is a science teacher in Ohio. She moved to the United States from Somalia when she was 12. Now she is mother to a 13 year old son. She tells us that raising a black son amid the racial discrimination in the United States can at times be heartbreaking.
