Rastafari, reggae and racism
In the Rastafari faith, evangelisation is musical – its most famous proponent being Bob Marley.
But as the Caribbean diaspora made new lives in the UK, reggae music began serving an additional purpose – promoting messages of belonging and togetherness as black Britons navigated racism. Dr Les Henry talks about the role reggae music and Rastafari held for him during his youth.
