Jacinda Ardern postpones New Zealand elections over coronavirus fears
New Zealand's prime minister has announced that general elections due to take place in mid-September have been postponed because of a fresh Covid-19 outbreak.
Jacinda Ardern said that the new date - October 17th - would allow parties "to plan around the range of circumstances we will be campaigning under".
The opposition national party had urged for the vote to be delayed.
Kate Wells, a reporter with the Newstalk ZB radio station joined Newsday from Aukland to discuss the decision.
