Mali's president resigns after military takeover

The armed forces in Mali have ousted President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita from power and declared their intention to set up a transitional government ahead of new elections. It follows the president's appearance on state television to say he had resigned from office. He and his prime minister were taken at gunpoint from the capital to a military camp. The United Nations and African Union have denounced the military takeover. Newsday contacted a number of people in the capital Bamako, most were unwilling to speak at such a time of crisis. But one resident did agree to give us her reaction anonymously:
