A white supremacist who shot dead more than 50 people at two mosques in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2019, has been sentenced to life in prison without parole - the first person in the country's history to receive such a sentence.

The judge's decision was welcomed by the families of the victims - including by Ahmed Wali Khan, who lost his uncle in the attack.

"I witnessed that horrific day, but my uncle's five sons were with me this entire week in court... so I was emotionally getting affected. My uncle was very close to me. He was more than my uncle to me"
