"No work, no pay" for civil servants in Anglophone region of Cameroon
Authorities in Bamenda, in North-West Cameroon, have begun suspending the salaries of dozens of civil servants for not reporting to work. The Anglophone region has been troubled by instability since 2017 when separatists begun fighting for independence from the rest of the country.
Teachers say they will be hardest hit by the policy introduced by the authorities as the rebellion means they have to stay away from classrooms. A teacher in Bamenda, who does not wish to be named for his own safety, explains what this means for staff like him.
