Classics with NOW: Bach, 鈥楧ouble Concerto in D minor鈥

Bach鈥檚 Double Concerto in D minor, also known as the 鈥楤ach Double鈥, is one of the most famous of over 1000 known works Bach composed in his lifetime.

From 1717-1723, Bach was the Director of Music for Leopold, Prince of Anhalt-K枚then, and it is possible that the Double Concerto was written for two principal violinists in Prince Leopold鈥檚 orchestra. Bach highlights the relationship between the two solo violins throughout the three-movement concerto, and typical of his own style and that of the late Baroque period, makes use of counterpoint and fugue.

This recording is from a performance which took place in Cheltenham Town Hall in 2016, with internationally renowned Baroque violinist, Rachel Podger, and 大象传媒 NOW Leader, Lesley Hatfield, as soloists. We hope you enjoy listening to it!
