How we've rescued over 50 Tasmanian pilot whales
In Tasmania's worst whale stranding disaster, hundreds of long-finned pilot whales have been found beached on the island's west coast. However volunteers have managed to rescue over 50 whales and release them out to sea.
Cory Brown, a wildlife rescuer and volunteer, explains how this was achieved. He explains the sociability of the whales, how groups, or pods, of whales needed to be taken out to sea together, and the moving cries of the whales as they call to each other.
