Afghanistan: Will America's withdrawal lead to civil war?
President Trump has said he wants to pull American troops out of Afghanistan by Christmas. The announcement took US officials by surprise. In Afghanistan, in response to this, the National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mohib has said the government is preparing for both peace and war, and doing everything it can to mitigate what he has called the very real threat of an Afghan civil war.聽
The warning comes at a time of an impasse in the Afghan peace talks in the Gulf state of Qatar and uncertainty over the timings of a planned US troop pull out, in the midst of intensifying Taliban violence.
