Covid-19: France to go into second lockdown

The French President Emmanuel Macron has appeared on television to announce a new national lockdown - meaning that from Friday people can only leave home for work, school or medical reasons.

Daily deaths from Covid-19 are now at their highest level in France since April, with more than 30,000 new cases announced on Tuesday alone.

The lockdown is set to last at least until the end of November.

MP Bruno Bonnell represents an area near Lyon in the east of the country on behalf of Mr Macron's party (La Republique en Marche). He knows first-hand the impact Covid-19 can have - as he's just recovered from it.

"When you're in the emergency room, as France is now, trying to get the country out of this disease, I think it's time really to take care of the immediate situation."
