The future of private schools
As the economic impact from the pandemic continues to bite, there are fears that some private schools could be driven out of business due to the loss of their main source of income: school fees. In July, the government further announced that it was scarping the entire academic year and making students repeat. They were not expected to begin classes again until January, the usual start of Kenya’s school year. Even though the government has since gone back on that decision, and proposed that schools reopen, the damage has already been done. According to the Kenya Private Schools Association, more than 100 private schools might not resume learning when schools reopen.
