Kamala Harris: Her Indian uncle's pride and elation at her election
Much is being made of Kamala Harris's Jamaican and Indian heritage and being elected the first female US vice-president. In Thulasendrapuram in southern India, once home to her maternal grandfather, villagers have been setting off firecrackers and offering prayers to celebrate her election.
Dr Gopalan Balachandran is a Delhi-based academic and Kamala's uncle, her mother's brother. He talks about his elation at her victory and why she is the perfect person for the VP role.
