Former Royal Marine vows to complete south west coast path charity walk after injury setback
Phillip Armstrong from Weymouth wants to offer something back to a local veterans hub.
A former Royal Marine veteran has undertaken an epic charity challenge to offer something back to The Veterans Hub in his home town of Weymouth.
Phillip Armstrong has battled gale force winds and torrential rain, during the first half of a 630 mile walk around the south west coast path from Minehead to Poole. The 54 year old set out three and a half weeks ago, and is raising funds for specialist trauma based therapeutic support based at the Veterans Hub in Wyke Regis, Dorset, particularly for ex-servicemen and women fighting PTSD and other mental health related difficulties.
Everything the super-fit veteran needs to complete this 'yomp' is on his back in a 25kg rucsac.
But shortly before arriving at Falmouth, Phillip badly injured his leg during a heavy fall. On doctor's advice, a short one week break has been prescribed to recover before a planned return to St Mawes in Cornwall.
This type of challenge would be tough at the best of times, let along heading towards winter during a pandemic. 大象传媒 Radio Solent reporter Laurence Herdman met Phillip and asked about the temporary setback and what has driven him to take on the challenge.
