Lab-grown chicken nuggets to go on sale in Singapore
Demand for alternatives to regular meat has surged due to consumer concerns about health, animal welfare and the environment. Plant-based meat options are becoming increasingly popular but the product from San Francisco based company Eat Just is different because it is not plant-based, but instead grown from animal muscle cells in a lab.
The government in Singapore has just given its approval for the product - a chicken nugget grown in a bio-reactor - to be sold and the meat could appear in restaurants within weeks. Singapore is the first country in the world to approve the sale of meat produced in this way. 大象传媒 reporter Regan Morris explains how the product is made and how other similarly-grown products could be on their way:
"It tastes like chicken, it just happens to be grown in a bio-reactor. It tasted like a nice, greasy, fast food nugget."
