An angry resident's reaction to violence in DRC parliament

"It doesn't look like democracy for me... they are just fighting for the fact that if they are on the right side they will get money. That's why I'm ashamed and I'm shocked"

Two days of fighting in the Demcocratic Republic of Congo might not sound unusual. But this fighting took place in parliament. And it reached such a level that even a senior UN official has called for a halt to violence between MPs.

Police were called into the Assembly to break up fistfights between supporters of President Felix Tshisekedi and those backing the previous head of state, Joseph Kabila. A number of people were reportedly hurt as the rival groups hurled objects at each other.

The violence comes after Mr. Tshisekedi said he was going to break his coalition with Mr Kabila. He said he was prepared to dissolve the parliament which is dominated by Kabila鈥檚 followers.

To see what the Congolese make of such scenes we are now joined by Jackie Mwasa, a Kinshasa resident.

"It doesn't look like democracy for me... they are just fighting for the fact that if they are on the right side they will get money. That's why I'm ashamed and I'm shocked."
