Mealworms for dinner?
Mealworms are small yellow grubs often used to feed birds. But many people think they could be healthy and an environmentally friendly source of nutrition for people. Now, scientists at the European food safety agency have given the green light for mealworms to be sold as a human food stuff in the EU. A move that means they could appear on supermarket shelves and in kitchens across the continent. So how nutritious are they? Professor Stefano Pascucci specialises in sustainability and "insects as an innovation" at the University of Exeter in England.
