2020 saw 23 year-old South Londoner Fursey Rossi – aka Furs - roll out a string of woozy, laid-back tunes perfect for late night lockdown listening. Falling in love with music production at the age of 16, his passion lends itself well to the sound he is creating. Borrowing from indie, rock, hip-hop and R&B, each track offers something slightly different; where ‘Sugar Coat’ is stripped back and vulnerable, with a captivating lo-fi buzz, ‘Okay’ is carried along by softly pulsating melodies and powerful drums swimming underneath a soulful vocal that becomes almost alluringly incoherent at points. Conversely, ‘Sidelines’ has a dominant hip-hop-infused bassline that packs a welcomed punch.

Citing Frank Ocean, Anderson .Paak, Fleetwood Mac and Led Zeppelin as some of his key influences, his genre-bending sound is no surprise. Having dabbled mostly in electronic music inspired by the video games he played as a teen (including side project Searching For Sergio), it was only during lockdown that Furs felt confident enough to play around with a more conventional singer-songwriter approach. Now, adding samples and synths to traditional instrumentation, he is pushing himself in a very promising direction.
