Monique Roffey: the book that changed me
Trinidadian-born British writer Monique Roffey's latest novel, The Mermaid of Black Conch, has won the Costa Novel Prize literary award.
She tells us why the underdog spirit evoked by the Neanderthal lead character in William Golding's 1955 book The Inheritors influenced her own writing and expression of language.
