Navalny: Thousands detained during Russia protests
Tens of thousands of demonstrators have taken to the streets all over Russia for the second week running in the biggest protests against President Putin for a decade. The Kremlin鈥檚 uncompromising response was more than 5,000 arrests.
The protesters were calling for the release of the jailed politician, Alexei Navalny, whose wife was amongst those arrested, and for an end to high-level corruption.
Natalia Pelevina who is on the board of Russia鈥檚 opposition People's Freedom Party witnessed the scene near the Matrosskaya Tishina detention centre where Mr Navalny has been held for nearly two weeks.
"I got away miraculously - a drive-by car offered me to jump in and they drove me off... Everyone else was detained and it looked horrific."
