Myanmar coup: How will pro-democracy activists respond?
President Joe Biden has threatened to reinstate US sanctions against Myanmar after the military seized power and placed the de-facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi and her associates in detention. Her party – the National League for Democracy - practically swept the board during elections last year and has called for her immediate release.
A human rights campaigner in Myanmar described the mood on the, largely empty, streets 24 hours after the coup.
