Harry and Meghan interview: what will be the fallout?
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have given a deeply personal interview to American television about their decision to step down from royal duties. Meghan, the wife of Prince Harry, said she'd considered self-harm while struggling with life as a member of the British royal family. She recounted incidents of alleged racism and said her calls for help were ignored. At the same time Prince Harry said he feels 'really let down' by his father, Prince Charles.
Royal commentator Jennie Bond, has followed the royal family for years.
"There are pretty serious allegations: that she wasn't given any help even when she asked for it, when she felt she didn't want to live anymore; that someone in the family apparently raised concern about the colour of the baby's skin. It's all extremely ugly... Family bust-ups really are unpleasant to witness."
