Protesters escape arrest after Myanmar military cordon
Nearly 200 protestors in Yangon have managed to evade capture after the military abandoned a night time search operation. Security forces had been going house to house to try to arrest protesters who'd been given shelter by local people after being trapped in a police cordon.
Explosions had been heard in the area, believed to be the sound of stun grenades by the military.
Before the operation ended, about fifty people were detained.
Aung Kyaw Moe is a human rights defender in Yangon.
"Most of the people are in solidarity and the people did not open the door and did not kick out the people who remained inside... Those who did not manage to stay safe... were taken away - approximately fifty young people were taken away and arrested."
