Myanmar crisis: Guards accused of preventing refugees from entering Thailand
Video shows hundreds of people fleeing - and guards putting up barbed wire within the jungle
Saturday was Armed Forces Day in Myanmar. The violence that took place that day against demonstrators in the cities has been well documented, but near the border of Thailand, Karen rebels marked the occasion by launching an attack, while the army responded with days of air strikes.
Stuck in the crossfire were thousands of civilians, many who have now fled their homes and are trying to cross the border into Thailand. But refugee groups have shared footage with the 大象传媒 which appears to show Thai border guards pushing people back away from the frontier.
The video was sent to Nopporn Wong-Anan from the 大象传媒 Thai Service who says media organisations have been prevented from entering the area to evaluate the claims.
"There've been pictures of Thai security guards putting barbed wire inside the forest, inside the jungle, trying to block the people, to not to cross further into Thailand. Actually these people are already on Thai soil but... the Thai authorities don't want these people to move further into Thailand."
