Toni of Banter Cards has a new member of staff. Will Brazilian Vicky understand the sweary merchandise?

Love and money are in the air as several of our young entrepreneurs prepare for Valentine’s Day. After Christmas, it’s their busiest time of the year. With the whole country still in lockdown and non-essential shops still closed, this Valentine’s means big business.

In Bridgend, Scott’s ordered in 1,500 hand-decorated love-themed doughnuts. But will an unexpected snowfall leave him with stale stock and a financial loss? At Mallows Beauty, Laura and Ronnie are flat out trying to meet demand on their Valentine’s Day gift box. Having initially ordered stock for 50 boxes, they now find themselves with 500 orders for the alternative Valentine’s - Galentine’s - that apparently celebrates your best friend.

At Banter Cards, Toni has taken on a new staff member. Vicky is from Brazil, and struggling to understand what the sweary and rude Valentine’s merchandise actually means. We also meet two new businesses. In Cardiff, Caribbean take-away owner Charlotte comes up with a new idea: romantic meals for two in portable pop-up igloos. And on Anglesey, 20-year-old uni students Sion and Sion tell us how a school project turned into a successful Welsh language clothing brand that is selling worldwide.

Despite the Covid pandemic, more under-25s are setting up businesses than ever before. These entrepreneurs are Young, Welsh and Bossin’ It.
