30th anniversary of the liberation of Bergen-Belsen

Michael speaks to some of those who were at Bergen-Belsen including survivor Gena Turgel and her husband Norman, who was among the British soldiers who liberated the camp.

In a special edition to mark the 30th anniversary of the liberation of Bergen-Belsen, Michael Freedland speaks to survivor Gena Turgel as well as to her husband Norman Turgel, who was among the British soldiers who liberated the concentration camp. He also hears from Norman鈥檚 fellow liberator, Andrew Pears, and to the Reverend Leslie Hardman, who was the first Jewish chaplain of the British army to enter Belsen. The programme features an archive recording of Richard Dimbleby鈥檚 original radio report from the camp.

This is a programme from the 大象传媒 archive, originally broadcast on 大象传媒 Radio in the 1970s. Aspects of the programme reflect the time when it was made and due to rights considerations, the music may be shorter than in the original programme.
