What鈥檚 next for Chad?

The president of Chad has been killed. Government and parliament have been dissolved. The capital鈥檚 on full alert 鈥 but what exactly is happening? And why does it matter?

Chad鈥檚 on full alert.

Earlier this week, President Idriss D茅by was reportedly killed during a battle with rebel forces.

Since then, the army has appointed his son as leader. But the opposition says Chad 鈥渋s not a monarchy鈥.

Tensions are running high. Government and parliament have been dissolved. A curfew remains in place.

Chad鈥檚 neighbours are nervous too: the country鈥檚 been a key player in the fight against jihadists across the Sahel.

So, what happens now?
