Poultry farming in Senegal
Across the continent, many countries are struggling with subsidized imports of frozen chickens from Brazil, the United States and the European Union.
Notably in Ghana, which liberalised its market in the 90s. It now imports nearly 90 percent of its annual chicken consumption.
Its neighbor, Togo has opted for an innovative strategy. Even though the country imports 24,000 tonnes of frozen chickens per year, or just over half of its annual consumption, its poultry sector remains dynamic.
