Watermead Memorial Walk remembers lives lost to pandemic
The tree trail in Watermead Country Park has officially opened as a space for reflection and remembrance for people whose lives have been affected by coronavirus.
The project was partly funded through crowdfunding as well as by many local groups and societies who've lost members to Covid.
Two of those are the Irish Ceilidh band ‘Green Shoots’ and the Leicester - Masaya link group.
They donated because one of their longstanding members, Michael Gerard from Clarendon Park, passed away in March 2020. He was one of the first victims of coronavirus in Leicester city.
Michael's partner Caroline was invited to the official opening of the memorial where she read a poem.
Our reporter Helen McCarthy sat down with Caroline in her garden to talk about the opening.
