How Coventry looked in 1509
Peter Garbett a passionate Coventrian is fascinated by Coventry's medieval past and created a model of the city's former city walls during lockdown. After finding a map from 1509 he decided to add the street layout as it was then including model houses, Coventry's cathedrals and churches and other notable buildings. In 1509 Coventry had all its walls, gates, churches and hospitals which includes Fords Hospital built in 1509. The model is now on display in Coventry's Central Library until the end of July and visitors including HRH Duchess of Cornwall have been flocking to see it. It allows people to see the original layout of the city before damage during the war changed it completely.
Here's what visitors to Coventry library have been saying about the quirky exhibit.. *it鈥檚 absolutely fantastic, it's incredible to see what our city looked like... the model brings it to life*.
"I had to come and see this".
