Scheduling gets underway with the men's marathon swimming. The women's event yesterday provided a great spectacle of tactical racing and it's hoped the men's will be no different. German Florian Wellbrock is known as the athlete with the best sprint finish, and he'll no doubt be in medal contention should he be near front towards the end. One challenger may well be Gregorio Paltrinieri of Italy, but he has recently overcome a bout of glandular fever so his ability to continually perform is uncertain.

After a very successful women's park event yesterday, the men's competition gets underway in the skateboarding. The heats get underway at the Ariake Sports Park before the final at 04:30 BST. Look out for the exciting Australian, Keegan Palmer, and Brazillian Pedro Barros, who'll be looking to secure the first ever men's Olympic gold in this event.

Australia and the US are competing for the first women's football medal of the games, where they're playing for the bronze. The US made a poor start to the tournament with a shock loss before coming through to the semi-finals. They couldn't overcome Canada and will now need to win to secure a medal. Sweden were the undoing of Australia, who had performed well to make it to the semi-finals, including a win over GB.
The world's leading two sides meet in the gold medal match of the men's hockey. Australia, ranked number one, take on Belgium, ranked number two, at the Oi hockey stadium. The European side overcame Spain in the quarter-finals and India in the semis to reach this medal match while the Australians overcame the Netherlands and and Germany on their way to the final.
In the women's beach volleyball semi-finals, Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy of Australia play Anastasija Krav膷enoka and T墨na Graudi艈a of Latvia for a place in the gold medal match. The men's basketball semi-finals are hotting up as the world number one and two sides, the US and Australia respectively, compete for a shot at gold. The US are favourites for the title and have a strong history in the Olympics. Winners of this semi-final will play France or Slovenia, the former of which shocked the American side in the pool stages.
The final of the men's combined final takes place with competitors still aiming to reach the top hold in the lead. The competition is bound to be close but look out for Jakob Schubert of Austria and 17-year-old Colin Duffy.
France and Slovenia meet in their men's basketball semi-final, with the winners going on to play the reigning champions, the US, in the gold medal match.
