John Kerry: World needs to unite on climate action

There are just over three months before COP 26 - the 2021 United Nations climate change conference. As the conference approaches, US Presidential Climate Envoy John Kerry has said that with an estimated nine years left to limit global temnperature rises to 1.5 degrees, urgent action was needed.

He says that all major economies would have to step up, with more ambitious targets and plans for the next decade. His comments come as new research shows that G20 countries are continuing to support fossil fuels in ways that are incompatible with the goals of the Paris agreement. He says that there are great economic opportunities to be gained from countries living more sustainably and that the Biden administration has the vision and the momentum to bring about change.

"We're in trouble and we're not responding with the speed that scientists tell us we need."
