Birmingham's first coronavirus death

72-year-old Earl Sewell from Handsworth Wood was one of the first people in Birmingham to die with coronavirus on March 16th 2020.

Earl was a dad and grandad and well known and loved in the community.

There's now a bench in his memory in Handsworth Park, a place he visited often.

His widow Jean contacted us at Radio WM in the days after his death - very early on in the pandemic when everything was very confusing - and we were able to help with information as we've tried to do for many throughout this tough time.

So we caught up with Jean as she reflects on the last 16 months.
