Storming onto the scene with her single ‘Sweating’ in June 2020, West London singer, artist and producer Alewya has a unique and captivating sound that will almost certainly stop you in your tracks. Born in Saudi Arabia to an Egyptian father and Ethiopian mother, her sonic palette draws on a vast range of influences. From the Ethiopian music her mother enjoyed to the Arabic songs that would fill her childhood home, Alewya’s wild sound blends these tribal influences with the hip-hop and rock music she grew up listening to.

Having started out making music in private as a form of escape, it wasn’t until about three years ago that Alewya decided to take it more seriously. Teaming up with Brixton-based producer The Busy Twist on her debut single ‘Sweating’, she then joined forces with the mighty Moses Boyd on 'The Code’. Raw and instinctive, they touch every sense; it’s clear from these tracks that Alewya knows her own mind and isn’t afraid to follow her gut when it comes to making music.

Her latest single ‘Jagna’, which translates into "fighter" in Amharic, is explosive and primal as she blends elements of electronica with more tribal sounds. Unsurprisingly, it has earned the West Londoner support from the likes of Annie Mac on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 1 and even landed her a spot on the ´óÏó´«Ã½ 6 Music playlist.
