Sixth time lucky for Zambian presidential candidate
After losing elections five times, Zambia鈥檚 opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema has finally won the race to be president. He was facing his long time rival Edgar Lungu who claimed the elections were not free and fair.
Hichilema gained 2.81 million votes against 1.81 million for Lungu.
Mutuna Chanda, a journalist in the capital Lusaka, said Mr Hichilema has promised to fix the economy and restructure the country's international debt.
"The cost of living has been rising and many Zambians have become discontented with that fact, so his message has resonated with what people have been going through."
