Pakistan has provided a safe haven for Afghans through decades of conflict, and in recent weeks many thousands have headed there, desperate to escape. There were two main crossings from Afghanistan into Pakistan: Torkham, which is on the road between Kabul and Peshawar in Pakistan, and Chaman.聽Now only Chaman, on the road between Kandahar and Quetta, is open to refugees.聽

大象传媒 reporter Shumail Jaffery is at the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. She says that the numbers of people coming into Pakistan are "unprecedented since the Taliban took over". She says that young poeple in particular were keen to leave Afghanistan and many had risked everything to make the crossing, their livelihoods destroyed, fearful that the crossing could be closed at any time.
