Boudica
Rattus gets Boudica to tell us how Rome’s biggest fangirl became a Roman hater!
The writers and cast behind Horrible Histories wonder what it might be like if Boudica had her own podcast. It begins just before her husband’s death and then jumps a little forward in time to when she has begun attacking the Romans.
Boudica is a huge fan of the Romans, enjoying life as wife to one of their Client Kings in Britain. She is excited to speak to Emperor Nero in Rome but actually gets his nefarious mother, Agrippina because Nero is busy practising his beloved lyre. Agrippina subtly reveals that she has plotted and possibly even murdered her way to a position of power.
To Boudica’s delight they discuss fashion trends in Rome but when she gets news that her husband, Prasutagus King of the Celtic Iceni tribe has died, she is shocked to discover that under Roman law, everything she and her family owns now belongs to them. She storms off.
There is a mock advert for an innovative new Roman writing tool - the metal pen. There is also a quiz question about how deeply Celts adore and respect horses.
We time jump a few months after the ad break. Nero himself is now on the line to Boudica, furious that she has been sacking Roman cities in England. She is so unapologetic; Nero actually relents and decides to withdraw from Britain. However, Boudica insults his lyre playing and Nero resolves to crush her armies. Boudica charges off to meet him on Watling Street.
Rattus offers some context at the top and tail of the episode, which also features two songs from the TV series – Wreck ‘em All and Boudica.
The minipod that goes with this episode features a mock advert for an innovative new product from France, called soap!
