No roles for women in new Taliban government
Afghanistan is waking up to a new government and it will be known from now on as the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
The new cabinet, entirely male, is made up of senior Taliban figures some of whom are notorious for attacks on US forces over the last two decades. It will be led by Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, one of the movement's founders, who is on a UN blacklist.
Newsday spoke to Dr Habiba Sarabi, former Minister of Women's Affairs and now Deputy Chair of the High Peace Council, who's currently in Doha. She spoke about the role of women and her thoughts on the new leadership:
"Women have progressed a lot, they know what to do. The Taliban should understand that we are not the same or women are not the same as in the 90s"
