Loggerhead sea turtles lay their eggs on the beaches of South Carolina, and then return to the sea. The eggs hatch between 50 and 60 days later, but face threats from poachers and predators. Pratiksha Ghildial explains how conservationists there are working to protect them by moving the eggs to safer locations.

The big picture is still of a species on the brink, with turtles endangered by plastic pollution, climate change-related weather conditions and fishing nets. Globally, 41% of amphibian families and 19% of reptiles, like turtles, are now threatened with dying out.
