Climate change in the Bahamas: 40 percent of landmass could be wiped out
Sea level rises, and more prolonged and more extreme weather patterns are associated with the effects of global warming. The Bahamas are made up of 700 islands and it's calculated that 80% of them are a metre or less above sea level, making them extremely vulnerable to rising sea levels and storms.
Nick is in New Providence in the Bahamas. He explains the impact of rising sea levels on the Bahamas, and how tourism, said to be responsible for 85 cents in every dollar raised, is likely to be the first sector of the economy that will be affected. He says that it's been said that 40% of the islands' land mass will disappear in the next 30 to 40 years.
