Climate change: How the polar bear is struggling to adapt

The impact of climate change and the increased intensity of events such as flooding, wildfires and cyclonic activity have caused many to lose their livelihoods and homes. Global warming has also affected the lives of thousands of species of animals, in some cases hastening their extinction and threatening their means of survival. Temperatures are rising at a higher rate at the poles, causing glaciers to melt and rising sea levels.

Dr Steven Amstrup is a chief scientist of Polar Bears International, a non-profit polar bear conservation organisation in the United States. He explains how the ice melt has affected these creatures and their ability to find food.
