Green mechanics - the looming shortage
Tim Muffett meets a group of car mechanics being taught how to service and maintain hybrid vehicles.
The Institute of the Motor Industry is warning there’ll be a huge shortfall of mechanics trained to work on Electric Vehicles (EVs) by 2030 – when the government says sales of new petrol and diesel cars will be banned. The Institute’s research shows there’ll be 35,700 fewer technicians than required by the end of the decade if current rates of training don’t ramp up. For 5 Minutes On, ´óÏó´«Ã½ Correspondent, Tim Muffett, heads to the Bosch Electric Vehicle Training Centre in West London, where a group of car mechanics are being taught how to service and maintain hybrid vehicles safely.
